According to the Daily News the toll on the environment, domestic animals and wild life is staggering. We have not seen this number and this size of fires at least within our memories,” said Amalie Orme, a Cal State Northridge professor of geography and environmental studies who knows all about wildfire, from the “wow” to […]
During the recent fires that swept through SoCal the LAPD stepped up and saved small pets.
We salute the men and women who have selflessly helped rescue animals.
Global Animal Foundation, a 501(c)(3) that funds emergency animal rescue worldwide, is collecting donations to disperse between HSVC and other vetted organizations working on the ground in the affected areas to help with medical costs for injured animals, boarding and food, and reuniting lost pets with their guardians.
Your support makes a difference.
With the help of friends and neighbors the horses at Gibson Ranch were in good hands.
The morning after all 150 horses were saved due to the combined efforts of the ordinary people who cared about saving these beautiful animals.
Today and every day you too can lend your support whether you live close to the fires or you are a charitable soul living miles away. Style Coven supports the Los Angeles Animal Care Foundation.
“The Foundation assists the Department’s emergency response and disaster relief efforts through its Noah’s Legacy fund by providing supplies, training and equipment to support these activities. These services are critical to the communities served by the Department as it continues to rescue animals from wildfires, flooding, earthquakes and man-made disasters.
The Foundation purchased four Animal Safe trailers that provide temporary sheltering for pets whose owners are evacuated due to natural or man made disasters. These trailers are self-sustaining, with heat, air conditioning, power, water, and lighting to provide excellent care to the displaced animals. The Department stations and staffs these trailers next to Red Cross emergency sheltering sites, so pet owners are never far away from their beloved pets.
The Foundation has also sponsored training on the safe evacuation and care of horses. Due to the frequency of wildfires in southern California, the Department is regularly called upon to evacuate and provide temporary sheltering for horses from fire zone areas. The Foundation supports the Department and its volunteers in this critical and life-saving service.”
The Noah’s Legacy Fund was established to support the Department’s emergency response efforts. These services are critical to the communities we serve as we continue to respond to the wildfires, flooding and earthquakes that can occur here.
Your support will help provide the food, shelter and medical care, and spay & neuter surgery for feline, canine, equine and all other pet residents who require shelter and care as a result of a disaster. Your support will also help us reunite these pets with the families that are searching for them and to provide this service in the future when needed.
Please consider making a special donation today to the Noah’s Legacy Fund by mailing your contribution to The Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation at P.O. Box 100515, Pasadena, CA 91189-0515 on this web site – just click on Donate and specify the Noah’s Legacy Fund in your contribution.”
As we get closer to the actual Mercury Retrograde this season the stars are energetically charged with the potential for disaster if we fight the catharsis that they promise to bring into our lives. Even astrological non-believers cringe at the thought of the chaos that a Mercury Retrograde can bring. Mercury, the planet of communication does not literally go backwards during this time, but its orbit does vary and consequently the aspects of every day life that are governed by the trickster planet go awry.
Mercury is your mental actions, communication, and rational energy. Mercury rules over your intellect, perception and reason, or good sense.
Mercury encompasses all avenues of communicating, reason, analysis, and aptitude. Mercury carries the Moons currents into communicative systems.
Mercury governs how we understand, the way we speak and the way we think. Mercury is also in charge of learning, searches, answers, descriptions and instruction.
Antique documents, books and aged things; correspondences, written words, and
declarations; new ideas and new things are all established in Mercury’s realm.
Mercury pushes us to discover, take heed, mull over and react.
Mercury regulates affairs import and export, trade, commercialism, and revenue.

Thank you much
When Mercury changes its orbit it is obvious how this seeming “reversal” affects all astrological signs in varying degrees according to where and how much Mercury is placed in their astrological charts. For some the chaos feels like nothing more than the tap of a fly crashing into a windshield, but for others it feels like a full on collision with a freight train. Every season I give advice on how to manage this difficult period. This time I am having difficulty meeting with a colleague who can’t seem to get her car out of the shop. And so, I concocted a simple spell to finally clear the way for us having a meeting that could and should benefit both of our careers.
- A black taper candle
- Lavender oil
- A metal pie pan
- A glass of water
- Gold magnetic dust
- Lavender Incense
Even though this is a simple working all five elements are duly represented. Earth – gold magnetic dust, Air – Lavender incense, Fire – the black candle , Water – the glass of water, Ether – in order to make this work successful you must BELIEVE that it will work.
This work is designed to “reverse” the negative effects of the Mercury Retrograde. What is turned upside down, will be made to magickally turn right side up.
- Since it is traditional to do work in the an altar placed in the East, this time put your altar however small it is in the West.
- Take the taper candle and turn it upside down and take off enough wax from the bottom to create a wick.
- Put a few drops of the Lavender oil on your finger and anoint the candle by rubbing the oil on the candle away from you instead of to you.
- Sprinkle the gold magnetic sand on the candle very lightly so the candle is covered, but in a very light layer.
- Light the original wick, turn the candle upside down and drip enough wax on the pan to secure the candle upright, with the original wick facing down and the new wick facing up. You are going to stick the candle into the pie pan by using the wax as a sort of “glue.”
- Next you are going to put the glass of water on the makeshift altar next to the candle.
- Then, put the lavender incense in an incense holder and light it next to the pie pan as well. The glass and the incense should be on either side of the pan with the candle in it.
- Finally, light the candle and relax.
Charging the Candle:
Sit in front of the altar in a chair or on the floor. The important thing is to be comfortable and to have a clear view of the candle flame. Stare at the candle unblinking for a few seconds focusing on the flame. Close your eyes and then open them again and continue to stare at the candle for as long as you can without blinking. As you do this breathe deeply and exhale very gently. Do this until you feel like you are verging on a sleepy/relaxed/hypnotic state.
What is happening?
As you have gone through the process of preparing the candle, the incense and the altar; you have been giving your subconscious non-verbal messages. You have been telling it that you want to reverse the effects of the Mercury Retrograde with color, scent and the Five Elements. Essentially, you have been communicating with your subconscious and telling it without words but by actions combined with your senses what you want to create.
Why does this work?
Your subconscious mind is a very powerful source of what we call magick. It is not your conscious mind that creates magick … because your conscious mind doesn’t understand it. But … your subconscious mind intuitively understands, not necessarily by thought, but mainly through your senses. The scent of the lavender tells your subconscious that you are working with Mercury. Your sight tells you by recognizing the color black as something that you want to make go away that you are banishing and furthermore burning the candle upside down tells your subconscious mind that you want to reverse something. Your subconscious also recognizes fire as fuel or a power source and ultimately the act of putting the gold magnetic sand on the candle itself communicates to your subconscious a message that you want energy drawn to the candle itself … which is a non-verbal message to the universe
“I want to banish and reverse the effects of Mercury Retrograde.”
When you have that realization say it out loud as many times as you feel you need to to make that statement true.
Letting it work:
You can sit and meditate for as long as you want. Become secure in the your subconscious has heard your message and be confident that it will do what you ask it to do… because your subconscious is designed to work with energy, so trust it to do the job.
Make sure that the candle is secure so that there is no danger of it tipping over and starting a fire. Likewise make sure that if you leave the candle unattended that you either blow it out when you cannot watch it, or you leave it someplace where it can do no harm should it accidentally tip over like a bathtub or a secure outside patio.

As a child I was so influenced by Picasso that when I created drawings of faces I intentionally positioned both eyes askew because that was how I thought you were supposed to draw eyes. When my teacher pointed this out to my mother at a parent teacher conference my mother was so proud. She recognized what I was doing. “My daughter is copying Picasso!” she said with pride.
In our house there were odds bits of art all about. Most of them were framed copies that my mother collected and displayed with the garish glee of a Pilipina who had seen the world. I was taught that a Picasso was the pinnacle of Modern Art. And for a child that meant that modern art had nothing to do with reality but everything to do with how life appeared when you crossed your eyes. LOL

Long before Lenny Kravitz’ pierced penis unexpectedly tumbled out of his pants to the shock and delight of his fans at a recent concert in Europe, which by the way attracted the attention of Steven Tyler who tweeted his disappointment at not knowing Lenny’s secret, It was revealed in NY Mag in 2011 that he got his “pubic piercing” because he wanted it. (Do you, Lenny.) Also, his mother left him a diamond and he thought, What better place to put the family jewels than by the family jewels?”
Here in Los Angeles some of the winners CBS Local’s Top Piercing Shops already carry a selection of luxe piercings that are ready to answer a projected demand. In the wake of #penisgate piercer Saint James Rajewski not to be confused with Chris Saint, from Rajewski’s home base at Los Angeles Body Jewelry and Studio City Tattoo had some very stylish suggestions for LA-Story piercing fans who are on trend.
Here’s an excerpt from the full interview to whet your appetite –
LA-Story: Who are your favorite body jewelry designers and why?
Saint James: That’s a tough one to give a concise answer on.. There are so many amazing jewelry companies out there these days. They have varying focuses on the style of jewelry, materials etc. So regarding the current topic I would have to certainly say BVLA (Body Vision Los Angeles)
is one of my absolute favorites as far as unique design with all prior stated higher end metals and gems. They are the top of the food chain when it comes to golds, platinums, etc and precious stones like diamonds or rubies and such. Anatometal is another favorite as such a well rounded company that carries all of our basic steel and titanium, yet also a wide variety in gold, diamonds and unique design. For post healed jewelry and innovative design i would have to say that Tawapa, Diablo Organics and Maya Jewelry are some of my other favorites. This list of my choice companies is certainly more extensive than I’ve stated here though…
Who is Saint James Rajewski?
My name is Saint James Rajewski, I am a 20 body piercing/modification veteran and an educator in all facets. I have pierced and instructed in 49 states and a small handful of varying other countries. My main drive in my work is to aid in one’s unique self expression and to comfort them during a vulnerable moment while going through their rite of passage. I am a facilitator of positive energy and intention via body alterations and adornments. Helping you adorn your temple and to realize what a temple it is. I’m also an internationally recognized performance artist in such acts as human suspension and other varying acts that show human transcendence.
